Most support tickets can be answered on the first reply or on the fourth. The difference is almost never how hard the problem is — it is whether the first message contained enough to reproduce it. This page lists exactly what to gather, in the order that matters.
The four things that answer most tickets
Even with no log file at all, these four usually get you a real answer:
- Your Sprecho version. Desktop: Settings → System → Updates, which shows "Current version". It is also at the bottom of the sidebar. Mobile: Menu → About.
- Your operating system and version. "macOS 15.3", "Windows 11 24H2", "iOS 18.2", "Android 15 on a Samsung S24".
- What you did and what happened, in that order and with the app named: "I clicked into a message in Outlook, held Insert, spoke for ten seconds, let go — the recording indicator disappeared and no text appeared."
- What you already tried, so nobody sends you round the same loop.
Two extras that are worth more than they look: whether restarting the app fixes it temporarily, and whether it happens in every app or only one. Each of those splits the possible causes roughly in half.
Where the desktop log file is
Sprecho writes one plain-text log file. There is no export button in the app — you open the folder yourself.
macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Sprecho/logs/sprecho.log
In Finder, press Cmd+Shift+G, paste the path and press Return.
Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Sprecho\logs\sprecho.log
Press Windows+R, paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\Sprecho\logs and press Return.
Attach the whole file. It is plain text, and the interesting part is rarely where people expect it.
Collect the log soon after the problem
The file is capped at about 5 MB. When it passes that, Sprecho clears it and starts over rather than growing without limit — so a log collected a week later may no longer contain the failure.
The most useful sequence is: reproduce the problem, note the time, then copy the file. If the problem only happens occasionally, copy the file the next time it does.
What the log contains
Timings, audio device names, the app you dictated into, network results and error codes. It can also include fragments of dictated text. If that matters for your work, open the file in any text editor and skim it before attaching it — it is readable plain text, not an archive.
Remote Desktop and Terminal Server
If your problem involves a remote session, two more files exist.
On your local PC, the remote-desktop plugin writes to:
%TEMP%\sprecho-rdp-plugin.log
On the Terminal Server, if your organisation deployed the session agent:
%ProgramData%\Sprecho\ts-agent.log
Neither contains screen or field text — they record lifecycle events, byte counts and error codes only. Include the first one if dictation misbehaves in remote applications, and mention which remote-desktop client and version you use.
Mobile
There is no log file and no export on iOS or Android, so the description does all the work. Include:
- Phone model and OS version.
- Sprecho version from Menu → About.
- Whether you were using the keyboard or dictating in the app.
- The exact text of any message on the keyboard surface.
- On Android, whether the accessibility switch shows as on.
A message that gets answered first time
Sprecho 2.50.6 on macOS 15.3, MacBook Pro M3. Since yesterday, dictation into Slack copies to the Sprecho clipboard instead of typing. It still types normally into Mail and TextEdit. Restarting Sprecho does not help. Accessibility is on for Sprecho and I removed and re-added it once. Log attached, the failure is around 14:20 today.
Version, platform, one app named, the contrast case, what was already tried, and a timestamp to search for. That is the whole recipe.
Send it
Open the support form and paste the details in. Attach the log file if you have one, and describe the problem in your own words — a précis that leaves out the app you were in costs a round trip.
If you have not read the article for your specific symptom yet, it may save you the ticket entirely: microphone not working on macOS, no text is inserted, the Windows app will not update, or I keep getting signed out.
