There are three different things people mean by "delete my data": one dictation, all of the content, or the account itself. Sprecho supports all three, and this article covers what each one actually removes.
Deletion is a right under Art. 17 GDPR, so the section on what survives is stated as precisely as the rest.
How do I delete a single dictation?
- Open the History view in the app.
- Hover the dictation you want to remove.
- Click Delete and confirm.
That removes the transcript and its audio recording from the server as well as from this device, and the deletion reaches your other signed-in devices through the normal sync.
How do I delete all my dictations at once?
- Open Settings → Privacy.
- Scroll to Delete All Data.
- Click Delete All and confirm.
This permanently removes every transcript and every audio recording from this device, from the server and from all your synced devices. It does not touch your account, your plan, your dictionary or your snippets.
Your usage statistics survive on purpose: word counts, dictation counts, words-per-minute and time saved are aggregate counters that contain no dictation text, and your weekly quota depends on them.
Turning Text Retention to "delete immediately" does its own purge of every stored transcript, but it does not clear audio. If you want both gone, use Delete All Data as well. See turn off transcript and audio storage.
How do I delete my Sprecho account?
The reliable route works even if you have uninstalled the app or forgotten your password:
- Open sprecho.ai/delete-account.
- Enter the email address on the account. We send a deletion link, valid for 30 minutes.
- Open the link. You get a preview of what will be deleted and a short countdown before the confirm button becomes active.
- Confirm. The account and everything attached to it is removed immediately.
On iOS and Android you can also use Profile → Delete Account inside the app.
What is deleted with the account
- Email address, name, profile image, language and time-zone settings
- All transcripts and all audio recordings
- Dictionary entries, snippets and notes
- Sessions and sign-in tokens on every device
- Notification and marketing preferences, consent records
- Subscription and payment-method records
If you own a team, ownership is transferred automatically to the longest-serving remaining member. If you are the only member, the team is dissolved with the account.
What survives deletion, and why
| Kept | Why | For how long |
|---|---|---|
| Invoices and bookkeeping records | German tax law, § 147 AO — a commercial retention obligation that overrides an erasure request | 10 years |
| Audit-log entries for security-relevant events | Documentation of access and administrative actions | Per the retention stated in the Trust Center |
Nothing in either category contains dictation text or audio. An invoice holds your billing name, address, VAT ID where applicable, and the line items.
Timing and confirmation
Deletion via the in-app and web flows is immediate, not queued. Backups rotate on their own schedule, so a copy may persist in an encrypted backup for a short period before it is overwritten.
If you would rather send a written erasure request, or you need written confirmation for your records, write to dpo@sprecho.ai. Requests are completed within 30 days, usually far sooner.
